The smell of southern comfort food fills the air at Se7en Bites in Orlando. You may also smell hints of vanilla, Bourbon, bacon and chocolate. Those are some of the ingredients that make up the bakery’s famous Nightime SkyPie.“It has crispy pieces of bacon in it, lots of vanilla bean so it really pushes that nice typical vanilla flavor and then we put it between graham cracker and dip the whole thing in chocolate,” owner and chef Trina Gregory-Propst said.The sweet treat inspired a new beer at locally-owned Orange Blossom Brewing Co. “I asked her which dish she was proudest of and it was the SkyPie and so I set to work recreating that in a beer,” owner Tom Moench said.The two businesses partnered to launch the new SkyPie Pils on this 407 Day. It's a day that began in 2020 to encourage residents to order takeout from local restaurants during the pandemic but is now celebrated annually every April 7. “This is the third year and we’ve actually expanded it... to really include not only restaurants but all local businesses, retailers, boutiques,” Danielle Hollander with Visit Orlando said.VisitOrlando, Orange County, the city of Orlando and locally-run food blog Tasty Chomps are participating by giving away prizes.Post a photo at your favorite locally-owned spot, use the hashtag #407day, and you could win a restaurant gift card or tickets to attractions. “So while you’re rewarding yourself you can reward yourself again by entering the contest along with helping our local community,” Hollander said. You can find the new beer at locations across Orlando including Burton's in Thornton Park, The Hammered Lamb and Se7en Bites.
