Tired of cooking on quarantine?

Orange County and Visit Orlando are giving you an excuse to order in, proclaiming Tuesday, April 7 as “#407 Day,” on which Central Florida residents are encouraged to show support for local restaurants.

More than 280 local eateries looking for business amid the coronavirus-borne downturn are listed on VisitOrlando.com/togo (as well as in our own, 400+ and growing list of Central Florida restaurants open for takeout and delivery). Orlando residents who participate in the campaign are encouraged to post on social media, sharing takeout selfies, fun food visuals and favorite places using the hashtags #407Day and #OrlandoToGo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and tagging @VisitOrlando and @OrangeCoFL in their posts.

“Our restaurant community is a vital part of who we are as a region,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings in a release from Visit Orlando. “We are all facing challenges because of COVID-19, but we must continue to support our local restaurants. I encourage our residents to order takeout or delivery. This gesture can make a difference in helping to lift up our neighbors through this crisis.”

Orlando residents are encouraged to order takeout in support of local residents on “407 Day.”

Restaurants have been working hard to pivot amid changing regulations, some of which have been relaxed even as others have tightened. Cocktails-to-go are a new thing for many, and have proven effective in helping some businesses stay afloat.

“407 Day is a celebration of Orlando’s incredibly diverse collection of restaurants, and the dedicated people who work there, who need us right now,” said George Aguel, president and CEO of Visit Orlando. “Let’s come together as a community to order from our favorite local places as we encourage our families, friends and neighbors to sit down at Orlando’s virtual dinner table on social media tomorrow.”
