Dubai has been named the top destination abroad on Brits' wishlists for summer if travel restrictions are lifted.

The UAE city has topped a list of the 20 most searched for international spots for summer, according to data from Booking.com.

City breaks reigned supreme in the results, with Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona taking the next top spots, respectively. (You can check out the full top 20 list below).

Of course Dubai has long been a firm favourite with holidaymakers thanks to its plethora of things to see and do, not to mention the incredible beaches and hotel pools to be found.

However, it's worth noting that at the time of writing the UAE is on the UK's red list of countries, meaning there is a travel ban, complete with direct flights between the UK and Dubai being suspended.

Still, there are plenty of other hotspots on the list that are well worth having on the wishlist if restrictions lift for Brits this summer.

Unsurprisingly, Spanish hotspots proved a particular hit with five of the top 20 locations being across mainland Spain (Benidorm, Malaga and Marbella) as well as locations in the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca, and Ibiza's San Antonio).

Italy was also a top choice with Rome, Sorrento and Venice all featuring on the list.

Although the majority of the list includes European cities and beach holiday destinations, a few long-haul spots also made the list, including the USA.

While it's off the cards for Brits at the moment, it seems that we're still dreaming of trips to some of its bucket-list worthy spots including Orlando and New York making the top 20.

(There's plenty to get excited about if you are thinking of a future trip to Florida, most notably Walt Disney World's 18-month celebrations and a new Peppa Pig theme park!).

Of course, it's not yet known whether travel abroad could reopen for Brits in summer, and what restrictions might look like.

The EU has unveiled plans for digital Covid vaccine passports but it's thought this would initially only be available to members of the EU.

Although there's currently a ban on international travel for Brits due to UK lockdowns, Boris Johnson did offer a glimmer of hope when he announced the roadmap for easing England out of lockdown, which could see foreign travel resume from May 17, subject to a review in April.

The news saw travel firms noting a surge in bookings and searches for the summer months - Booking.com itself saw a rise in travel searches following the announcement at the time.

At the moment it remains illegal to travel abroad for a holiday but there's no harm in dreaming a little - and you do just that with the wanderlust-inducing list below...
